Cobalt chrome (Remanium Star)
General applications
Cobalt chrome (Remanium Star) alloy is used in particularly demanding environments in industry and medical applications. The material is commonly used in gas turbines, dental implants and orthopedic implants.
Compared to other Cobalt chromes Remanium Star has a very high characteristic strength and strong resistance to corrosion and wear. In addition, it withstands heat very well. The material also stands out with its high tensile strength value. The combination of low yield strength, relatively high elongation at break and high tensile strength means that as stress increases, the metal will bend quite easily, but it will bend a relatively large amount before breaking.
Remanium Star material is a medium-hard, rigid and strong material that molds relatively easily. Typical applications are fully functional end products.

The use of cobalt chrome in industrial 3D printing
Cobalt chrome is 3D printed using SLM technology. SLM, i.e. Selective Laser Melting, refers to a printing technology in which metal powder is melted with a powerful laser to produce the desired shape. The laser beam used in this technique is very narrow, which makes it possible to print very precise shapes.
Cobalt chrome in the manufacture of dental implants
The cobalt chrome alloy remanium® star CL is specially designed for the manufacture of dental implants:

Applications:
- crowns and bridges
- metal-ceramic coating bodies
- removable partial dentures
- primary and secondary components of composite restorations
Compared to plastic (acrylic) dentures, cobalt chrome dentures are stronger. Metal prosthesis also do not cover as much of the palate as plastic prostheses, which improves comfort. The 3D printed cobalt chrome prosthesis is lighter than acrylic, and in addition, by printing, the prosthesis can be shaped more precisely to provide a better fit.
Although a 3D-printed cobalt chrome prosthesis can be a more expensive option than acrylic, the durability of cobalt chrome, as well as the comfort offered by the precise printing technology, often make dental professionals prefer a metal prosthesis.
